LAUNCHING OF 2016 PLANTING SEASON FOR BIOFORTIFIED CROPS (VITAMIN A CASSAVA AND MAIZE) AT THE FEDERAL COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE, AKURE, ON THE 7TH OF MAY, 2016

Synopsis:

The 2016 Planting season for biofortified crops (Vitamin A Cassava and Maize) was launched at the Federal College of Agriculture, Akure on the 7th of May, 2016. The College Point of Sales (Agroshop), Biofortification Restaurant and Cassava Processing and Value Addition Centre, all donated by an International Donor-HarvestPlus, were commissioned on the same day.

HarvestPlus is an international organization funded by Bill&Melinda Gates Foundation, DFID UK and other Global Donors. HarvestPlus has, since 2010, partnered with Federal College of Agriculture, Akure in Agricultural Value Chain Training and Development; most recently in the aspect of Biofortification (Development and Delivery of Vitamin A Cassava and Maize). All these provisions have exposed the students of the institution to value chain opportunities of production, processing, value addition, marketing and consumption; making them one of the best trained in the world.
